COUNSELING

Grief Doesn’t Have a Timeline—Neither Does Our Support

The loss of a law enforcement officer leaves more than an empty seat at the dinner table—it reshapes a family’s future in every way. At McDavid Charities, we recognize that financial help is only part of the healing process. That’s why we also provide counseling resources through Concerns of Police Survivors, to help families navigate grief, trauma, and the ongoing emotional challenges that follow a line-of-duty death.

Why Counseling Matters

Grief is not something you get over—it’s something you learn to carry. When a spouse or child loses their loved one in such a public and tragic way, the emotional toll can be overwhelming. Without the right support, it can impact every area of life—from relationships to education to long-term mental health.

We believe these families deserve more than sympathy. They deserve tools to heal, people to lean on, and space to feel seen.

What We Offer

We connect surviving family members with:

  • Professional Counseling Services: Referrals to licensed therapists experienced in trauma and grief
  • Peer Support Networks: Opportunities to connect with others who understand their journey
  • Support Groups: Safe, confidential settings for sharing, listening, and healing together
  • Ongoing Resources: Guidance, check-ins, and tools for long-term emotional wellness

These services are offered at no cost to the families we serve, through Concerns of Police Survivors.

Our Approach

We know that healing looks different for every family. Some need support immediately. Others reach out months or years later. We meet families where they are, with compassion and patience—not pressure. Whether through one-on-one support or group environments, we ensure no one has to walk this path alone.

Access Support
