THE MCDAVID GROUP CHARITIES IS PROUD TO HOST THE 5TH ANNUAL GOLF FOR COPS CELEBRITY PRO-AM

In the Summer of 2016, five police officers were brutally executed in Dallas, Texas. As I sat in my truck listening to the radio commentary, it hit me like a ton of bricks. In that moment, I made the decision to throw my time and resources behind our men and women in blue. Through in-depth research, I discovered that there were very few charities that support law enforcement families, and the money raised was very small in comparison to other notable charities.

Everyday, our law enforcement officers wake up, say goodbye to their families, and head to work uncertain as to whether or not they will return home. They put everything on the line each time they clock in. Today, the risk is higher than ever. Yet, without complaining, these brave men and women put on a badge and protect our way of life. They are more than just police officers; they are husbands and wives, fathers and mothers, sons and daughters, family and friends. When an officer loses their life, the effect on their family is catastrophic. There is emotional devastation to the family, not to mention the massive financial burden.

In its first four years, Golf for C.O.P.S. has generated over $1,230,000. Every dollar raised, outside the hard costs of the tournament, goes directly to the families of the fallen. We have no salaried associates at McDavid Group Charities. Everyone helps on a volunteer basis. Our PGA Tour Players and Sports celebrities choose to participate due to their support of the cause. Everyone that participates does so out of their passion for law enforcement. This is a charity that everyone can sink their teeth into.

Please join me in this powerful cause and let the families of our fallen officers know that they are not alone, that their sacrifice will not be forgotten, and that they will not be forgotten. Golf for C.O.P.S. is currently supported by major donors such as Stitch, FootJoy, Wyndham Grand Hotels, Trump National Jupiter, and Tequesta Country Club to name a few. The stories are heart wrenching; this is our opportunity to give back and recognize the families left behind.

McDavid Group Charities Hosting Annual “Golf for C.O.P.S.” Tournament

Tequesta, FL (11/16/18) – The McDavid Group Charities is proud to present the 3rd annual Golf for C.O.P.S. Celebrity Pro-Am. All proceeds from the event will benefit Concerns of Police Survivors, a national organization providing resources of all kinds to help survivors of police officers killed in the line-of-duty.

Through its first two years, Golf for C.O.P.S. has raised over $400,000. Every dollar raised outside the hard costs of the tournament goes directly to C.O.P.S. Donated funds are earmarked to support their Hands-On Programs and counseling services, as well as to provide emotional and financial support, scholarships, and other initiatives to help surviving spouses and children that have been affected by a line-of-duty death.

Golf for C.O.P.S. kicks off December 2nd with a registration party at the Wyndham Grand at Harbourside. Complete with a putting contest, indoor long drive, silent auction and giveaways, the registration party offers participants a chance to meet celebrities and PGA Tour players who have donated their time in support of C.O.P.S. The main event is the celebrity pro-am, held Monday, December 3rd at Tequesta CC. Sponsors include Stitch Golf, FootJoy, and Tito’s Vodka. Each of the 25 groups will be paired with multiple celebrity or PGA Tour players throughout their round. Participating this year are PGA Tour players Ryan Armour, Denny McCarthy, Will Wilcox and Will McKenzie, PGA Champions members Jim Thorpe, Russ Cochran and Donnie Hammond, as well as celebrity appearances by Bill Parcells, Rick Ankiel, and Vince Papale.

In addition to the Pro-Am, a banquet will be held at the Wyndham Grand at Harbourside, December 3rd, at 6:00pm. Dinner tickets are available for purchase to the public, with all proceeds donated directly to C.O.P.S. The banquet includes silent and live auctions, celebrity guest speakers, and emotional stories from survivors about how the C.O.P.S organization helped them through the most challenging times of their lives.

Jim McDavid, President of the McDavid Group, organized the tournament to raise funds and awareness for the services provided by C.O.P.S. “The effect on a family when an officer loses their life is catastrophic. There is the emotional devastation, not to mention the massive financial burden,” said McDavid. “My goal is to provide emotional and financial support through Golf for C.O.P.S. so the families of our fallen officers know they are not alone, their sacrifice will not be forgotten, and they will not be forgotten.”

On average, about 150 police officers are lost in line-of-duty deaths each year. “The attacks on law enforcement have been unprecedented. As a result of the increase in line-of-duty deaths, the C.O.P.S. membership of survivors is increasing at a rapid rate,” said Dianne Bernhard, Executive Director of National C.O.P.S. “With the help of donors like the McDavid Group, and fundraisers like Golf for C.O.P.S., we are able to assist law enforcement survivors at no cost to themselves, as the price they’ve paid is already too high.” They are more than just police officers; they are husbands and wives, fathers and mothers, sons and daughters, family and friends.

The effect on a family – financially and emotionally – is catastrophic. Concerns of Police Survivors uses their resources to help rebuild the shattered lives of these heroic families.

Everyday our law enforcement officers wake up, say goodbye to their families, and head to work not knowing whether or not they will return home. They put everything on the line every time they clock in. Today the risk is higher than ever, yet without complaining, these brave men and women put on a badge and protect our way of life. Many of our brothers and sisters in blue have made the ultimate sacrifice, giving their lives to protect and uphold the law, so that you and I, and our families can rest safely.

The death of a law enforcement officer leaves a devastating wake. It’s not just the emotional toll that it takes on a family, but it is also the overwhelming financial burden they must deal with. Concern of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.) is an organisation that for the past thirty-plus years has come to the aide of the surviving families.

C.O.P.S. relies solely on donations raised through organization such as The McDavid Group Charities to help support families left behind. All proceeds (less the hard cost of the Golf for C.O.P.S. tournament) go directly to funding schools and camps, as well as the financial and emotional needs of surviving families. “We are behind C.O.P.S. for life,” says Jim McDavid, president of The McDavid Group and The McDavid Group Charities. “The tournament has had great success because people understand the sacrifice, as well as the landscape that our law enforcement officers have to navigate every day. It’s simply not safe, as they put it all on the line to serve and protect.”

Every year the tournament gains more momentum with the addition of new professional golfers and celebrities from around the country dedicating their time for this powerful cause. A few of the celebrities and professional golfer attending last year’s event were former professional baseball players Rick Ankiel and Jim “Kitty” Kaat, legendary NFL coach Bill Parcells, as well as PGA professionals Donny Hammond, Jim Thorpe, and Tequesta Country Clubs own Russ Cochran.

Three years ago, the inaugural speaker was Philadelphia’s own Vince Papale. Papale, the subject for the movie Invincible, is committed to supporting America’s law enforcement teams across this great nation and gave a powerful message to the those that attended the celebrity awards banquet. Both Papale and his wife Janet will again be participating in this year’s event.

“We are supporting those who have protected our freedom and our dream— it’s so important that we help out,” says Papale. “I am honoured to be a part of it.” Taylor Mock, a survivor who lost her father—a police officer—in 2006, will be volunteering at the event and addressing attendees about C.O.P.S.’ mission.

“This event is very special to me because it empowers me with the ability to tell my story. “They have supported my mom and me through some of the toughest times in our lives. The hands-on support through kid’s camp, adult retreats, and spouses counselings has made a tremendous difference in our healing process. This golf tournament helps to fund these programs.” I can now educate others on C.O.P.S. and the significant role they play with families of fallen officers.”

McDavid notes that they are aiming to raise $300,000 this year with the support of corporate sponsors—a commitment that will make a significant impact on the affected families.

In addition to the Golf for C.O.P.S. Tournament, there will be a pre-tournament competition on Sunday, December 2nd at the Tequesta Country Club called the ‘C.O.P.S. Cup,’ an exclusive tournament for members of area police agencies to come play against each other and enjoy a day of golf alongside PGA professionals. With a can’t miss registration party at the Wyndham Grand (host hotel), following the C.O.P.S. Cup, the tournament will then kick off the next day, Monday, December 3rd, and it will be followed by an awards banquet and live auction ceremony at the Wyndham Grand Jupiter. Anyone not attending the golf tournament is welcome to attend the celebrity banquet including both the silent and live auctions by purchasing a ticket. To cap it all off, a post-banquet cocktail party for major donors and sponsors will be held at Jupiter’s fine-dining restaurant, 1000 North, in the private members lounge.

Registration for the tournament is currently open and the playing field is half full. There are many ways that you can support the event from providing auction items to any of the many sponsorship opportunities.

McDavid Group Charities Celebrates National Police Week

In May, The McDavid Group Charities honored all the 2023 fallen law enforcement officers by attending National Police Week in Washington, D.C. This event is orchestrated by organizations like Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.), which plays a crucial role in bringing National Police Week together.

Our organization will continue to be avid supporters of C.O.P.S., as they are pivotal in rebuilding shattered lives within the families we support.National Police Week is a profoundly emotional time, filled with both support and encouragement.

It begins with the arrival of law enforcement survivors, greeted by Honor Guard standing at attention from agencies across the United States. As survivors exit their planes, they are escorted to the C.O.P.S. host hotel by bus, accompanied by motorcycle escorts.Following this is the arrival of Law Enforcement United (LEU) in front of the host hotel. LEU comprises law enforcement officers and survivors who ride bicycles into Washington D.C. More than 1,500 cyclists participate, honoring our fallen by riding over 250 miles into the city.

Day 2 features the Candlelight Vigil, presented by the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund. Held on the National Mall, this vigil sees the names of all officers engraved on the National Law Enforcement Memorial Wall for 2024 read aloud.

Day 3 hosts The National Police Survivors’ Conference, providing survivors with validation and tools to aid in their grief journey. It offers a platform for survivors to share their stories, interact with mental health professionals, and attend sessions aimed at providing hope. Additionally, there is a program for kids and teens, offering experiences like visits to the FBI Academy and rare areas of the Pentagon. This year, The McDavid Group Charities provided bags for the 14-18 year olds, which included our “America’s Heroes Scholarship Fund” information, a book on selecting the best college, a fidget toy, a pen, and an America’s Heroes Scholarship wristband. Day 3 concludes with the 40th Anniversary Celebration of C.O.P.S. at the Blue Light Gala. This eventful evening highlighted the story of C.O.P.S. and featured numerous honorees, speakers, and special guests.

Day 4 is marked by the National Peace Officers’ Memorial Service, organized by the Fraternal Order of Police. Held on the Capitol’s lawn, surviving families are given a Medal of Honor and place a carnation in a wreath to honor their fallen loved ones. This wreath is later taken to the National Law Enforcement Memorial, where Honor Guards stand watch until midnight, with guards changing every eight minutes.

Day 5 continues with the second day of The National Police Survivors’ Conference, featuring breakout sessions by mental health professionals to address survivors’ struggles. Another day of kids and teen programs follows, concluding with the Blue Family BBQ—a wonderful evening for families to gather, relax, and connect. Activities include “Critters for C.O.P.S. kids,” temporary tattoos, a photo booth, DJ music, and dancing. We were honored to have our Executive Director attend and participate in all events and activities.

We loved directly distributing our scholarship information to the teens we aim to support. Lastly, it is always a privilege to see “The McDavid Group Charities” name displayedas a supporter of C.O.P.S. around the host hotel.
